Description

NGC 5474 is a peculiar dwarf galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major.  It is one of several companion galaxies of the Pinwheel Galaxy (M101) and also the closest to the Pinwheel Galaxy itself.  As a result, the gravitational interaction between two has strongly distorted NGC 5474, resulting in a disk that is offset relative to the nucleus.  NGC 5474 also shows some signs of a spiral structure, giving it the relatively rare classification of a dwarf spiral galaxy.
